A new SIBA in 2025,
It's time to get involved!

Dear Business Angels friends, dear readers,

Political instability, legislative uncertainty, a new international order? Progress and innovation don't wait for the declarations of those who govern us. The creative power of humankind lies above the debate on ideas, which aims to regulate the use of innovations such as AI. Our members have made no mistake: over the past year, they have invested massively in innovation, making BADGE the leading network of Business Angels, on a par with our friends at PBA, who have also performed very well. In 2025, let's keep up the pace - the network gives us the means to do so:

Following the success of previous SIBAs with our members, BADGE has decided to launch a new SIBA, for which subscriptions will begin next month (see detailed article below).

Investing via a SIBA can be a wise move if you want to quickly build up a diversified portfolio of innovative start-ups. I remind you that our investments are at risk, and that you need to choose several participations before seeing one really succeed.

BADGE can point to tangible statistics on the first SIBAs of the previous decade: XMP 2010 distributed 130% of its capital to its shareholders and has a final stake in Hemarina, a company that raised €17 million in 2024. BADGE 2015 has distributed 50% of its capital to its shareholders, most of whom have also benefited from a 50% reduction in wealth tax, and still owns numerous stakes, including four winning ones.

The LF 2025 and LFSS 2025 have both been passed. They renew the tax incentive for risk-taking with the JEI scheme, which grants a 30% or 50% income tax reduction. The only change concerns the R&D expenditure threshold to qualify for JEI status, which has been raised to 20%, a criterion generally met by the start-ups we met at BADGE.

Investing in a SIBA BADGE is easy, starting at €5,000. SIBAs are reserved for our active members. The annual fee is modest compared with the possibilities offered by the network.

So let's support innovation with the Business Angels of the Grandes Ecoles and join now - it's easy by clicking here.

Best regards,

Paul Leondaridis,

Chairman of Business Angels des Grandes Écoles.

A SIBA BADGE 2025!

Dear Friends,

SIBA BADGE 2025 is being created!

Given the success of previous SIBAs created within BADGE, it was decided to set up a new one to enable our members to diversify their investments and consequently their risks. A stake in an in-house investment company means that a larger number of projects can be financed with a single subscription. 22 projects were financed by the previous SIBA BADGE 2023.

Like its predecessors, SIBA BADGE 2025 will invest in projects approved by individual BADGE members, giving priority to high-impact projects that meet enhanced ESG criteria and control risks. It will operate like a mini investment fund, with an Investment Committee that will make recommendations to the Board of Directors, the sole final decision-maker. It will ensure that the portfolio is sectorally balanced, giving priority to early-stage investments and to those maximizing the tax deduction. SIBA 2025 reserves the right to invest large amounts in particularly interesting projects.

Finally, the usual duration of a SIBA is around 10 years.

The articles of association and by-laws are currently being finalized, and the company will be created very shortly. This will be followed by the opening of a bank account to enable the payment of shareholdings as early as March, giving SIBA the means to begin financing projects rapidly before the summer.

Dry AMD: SeaBeLife obtains highly promising preclinical efficacy results for SBL03, without injection into the eye

Start-up SeaBeLife announces promising preclinical results for SBL03, its non-invasive ophthalmic gel designed to protect the retina against dry AMD (Geographic Atrophy). ! Unlike intravitreal injections, available only in the United States, SBL03 offers a topical, non-invasive solution that targets retinal cell necrosis to slow degeneration. With 5 million people affected worldwide and no treatment available in Europe, this innovation could transform the way the disease is managed. Next step: regulatory preclinical trials this year, followed by the launch of human clinical trials in 2026. BADGE is proud to be part of the SeaBeLife adventure and to contribute to protecting life at the deepest cellular level.

Great projects to invest in within our network

Kimialys develops and markets an innovative chemical treatment for surfaces used in diagnostics (nanoparticles, chips, electrodes), making it possible to increase the sensitivity and specificity of tests, and thus pave the way for new clinical applications. Kimialys' core technology is based on a proprietary method of pre-functionalizing biochips and nanoparticles, and represents a major breakthrough in biosensor coating.

The start-up deeptech XiMed aims to solve the problem of overconsumption of macrobiopsies by exploiting a new patented phase-contrast X-ray imaging technology, developed since 2017 at the ALPhANOV photonics and laser technology center. This technology makes it possible to achieve levels of resolution making it possible, for the first time, to create a new, more precise semiology of breast microcalcifications. Eventually combined with a diagnostic aid module based on artificial intelligence, XiMed aims to revolutionize the clinical workflow for the early detection of breast cancer, by precisely qualifying microcalcifications directly on mammographic images, thus avoiding unnecessary macrobiopsies for millions of patients.

Starkage Therapeutics is a biotechnology company focused on combating cellular senescence in various pathologies, notably cancer. Its main program consists of developing innovative antibodies (targeted therapies) aimed at specifically eliminating senescent cells present in conventional cancer treatments, thereby increasing the efficacy of these treatments and reducing side effects.

Crystal Quantum Computing creates a quantum computer with trapped ions. Quantum computers use the properties of quantum physics - the principle of quantum superposition and the entanglement effect - to perform calculations involving large volumes of information, calculations unattainable for conventional computers. The company has opted for quantum computer technology, in which ions are trapped by spinning electric fields.

Luchrome is a deeptech start-up created in July 2023 and incubated at Bordeaux Technowest, focusing on the manufacture and sale of screens that have the advantage of being the most energy-efficient display technology on the market, ideal for connected objects. The invention, which is protected by several patents, is aimed at the low-power display market ($2 billion), with several applications: connected labels for the retail sector at the head of the aisle, and for logistics in addition to consumer electronics (see TDS). Thanks to breakthrough innovations in low-power consumption, the printing capacity of these devices and their low environmental impact, Luchrome intends both to replace certain products (retail) and to offer new applications for displays.

Founded in 2019, OPUS Aerospace is a French start-up that aims to develop launch solutions dedicated to small satellites to accelerate space exploration. Through STERNE, its range of reusable launchers, it will enable payloads of up to 300 kg to be placed into precise orbit on the desired date. Today, the company is developing its first suborbital rocket, named "Mesange", which will be launched to embark its technologies & its first customers.

By offering welders a piloted collaborative arm, Weez-U Welding 's aim is to eliminate the risky, tiring and repetitive aspects of their work. Welders benefit from improved comfort, produce higher quality welds and increase their productivity. At a time when many companies are finding it hard to recruit, our solution makes the job more attractive. An initial piloted welding solution, using a standard robotic arm, has been in service with our customers for two years, and has sold 7 units. Weez-U Welding is preparing a new version of its piloted welding cobot, based on an ultra-lightweight robotic arm, which will be available for pre-production at the end of 2024. This product represents a major breakthrough in the robotics market.

Despite their performance, silicon solar panels have some notable limitations: their rigidity, weight and unattractive appearance restrict their use. They are difficult to integrate on surfaces that are curved, small or require careful design. Optipus PV offers an innovative solution with Energy Skin. These lightweight, flexible and colorful photovoltaic modules push back the boundaries of organic photovoltaic (OPV) technology, combining efficiency and design diversity. The start-up initially targets consumer electronics products for renewable energy supply, with extended potential applications: listed buildings, electric bikes and cars, boat sails, and much more.

Knock Knock offers a penetration test orchestration and automation platform designed for pentesters and cyber defense experts, enabling them to maintain continuous cybersecurity monitoring. This solution fosters seamless collaboration between offensive and defensive teams. This strategic positioning enables Knock Knock to target the pentest software market, valued at $2 billion by 2024, with annual growth of 14.4%. In addition, it paves the way for the vulnerability management market, estimated at $14.4 billion in 2024, a fast-growing sector due to increasing geopolitical tensions and tightening regulations.

INSPEERE offers DATIS, an innovative, sovereign backup solution, recognized by the JEIR and Résimark labels in 2024. This technology combines economic and environmental efficiency, surpassing traditional Cloud services. Based on the work of co-founder Olivier DALLE, DATIS uses a resilient peer-to-peer network to simplify 3-2-1 backup best practices, crucial for SMEs and ETIs according to ANSSI and CNIL. INSPEERE mainly targets local authorities, hospitals and ETIs, where the DATIS technical proposal generates strong interest. Although sales cycles are long, the strategic partnership with distributor MIEL from 2025 is targeting sales of 1 million euros, supported by a rapidly expanding network of resellers.

SeaBeLife is developing innovative drug candidates capable of combating cell death. The innovation focuses on the simultaneous inhibition of two types of cell death by necrosis. The therapeutic potential is major, as activation of these pathways is one of the recent explanations for several serious pathologies with limited therapeutic alternatives. In particular, acute renal and hepatic failure, for which SeaBeLife has obtained encouraging preliminary results in animal models and is currently in regulatory preclinical development in acute hepatic failure. Beyond these acute pathologies, cell death is also a therapeutic target for SeaBeLife in widespread chronic pathologies such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases, or AMD. Promising results in cellular models have already been generated by SeaBeLife, and one of these molecules is in preclinical development for dry AMD.

The need for ultra-fast and/or ultra-maneuverable, weather-resistant UAVs has been recognized, but the solutions currently on the market do not meet these new requirements. AERIX SYSTEMS has come up with a breakthrough innovation that boosts drone flight performance tenfold, thanks to omnidirectional propulsion. This enables continuous 360° inspections, even in windy conditions (wind turbines), or the creation of drone-hunting drones, for example. Having demonstrated and validated its technology, the company now has its first product and a second (already pre-ordered by a major French defense group). AERIX SYSTEMS is now looking for a financial backer before raising funds to support its commercial and industrial expansion.
