News from Newave Surfboards
A few months ago, we announced thatENSTA Alumni was sponsoring the Newave Surfboards project by Ewen MAHEVAS (class of 2023) and Hadrien NAUROY (class of 2022.5) as part of the Faites-nous rêver program, with the aim of designing removable surfboards.
The Newave Surfboards project is growing by leaps and bounds. Here's the latest news.
"After several months of research and development, we were able to come up with a first full-size prototype of our board in three pieces, with the help of a professional shaper and a grant from ENSTA Alumni. We had the opportunity to try it out and surf our first waves! The first tests were very satisfactory.
We've also completed the drafting of our future patent, and are currently awaiting validation so that we can really show our project to the outside world.
We also managed to secure €70,000 in external funding through grants and loans. We would particularly like to thank the alumni of ENSTA Paris, who were the first to agree to support our project.
Several industrial partnerships have also enabled us to develop a suitable manufacturing process and prepare a first series of 8 boards for this summer. We are collaborating with the Paris-Saclay Hardware Accelerator for the powder 3D printing of our fasteners. We can also count on the help of the Squid Surfboards team, based in Les Sables d'Olonne, to manufacture surfboards and assemble our prototypes. Finally, Proxinnov agreed to help us cut and machine our boards.
Next September, the Newave Surfboards team will move to Les Sables d'Olonne to finalize R&D and fine-tune its assembly plant, with the aim of starting board production in January 2024 and delivering to customers before summer 2024."
