TFJM² is one of the student projects subsidized this year by ENSTA Alumni as part of theFaites-nous rêver call for projects.

Presentation by Alexandre LARRY (class of 2025)

"The Tournament of Young Mathematicians (TFJM²) is a mathematics competition that showcases the mathematical skills of high school students from all over France. For several months, these young enthusiasts work in teams of 4 to 6 members on complex, original problems, specially designed by a committee of researchers and doctoral students. Supervised by mathematicians, both amateur and professional, the high-school students strive to find innovative and rigorous solutions to these intellectual challenges.

The process of entering the tournament is demanding. Teams must first write detailed reports on their solutions, demonstrating their understanding of the problems posed and their ability to solve complex mathematical puzzles. Then, at regional tournaments held at the beginning of the year, teams present their solutions to juries. The teams that come out on top with the best performances are selected to take part in the national final.

This year, the national final was held at ENSTA Paris during the week-end on May 19, 20 and 21. The event brought together selected teams from all over France, who had the opportunity to present their solutions to an audience of mathematicians, teachers and other math enthusiasts. The competition was at its height, and the exchanges between the teams were rich in knowledge and creativity.

In addition to the competition itself, participants had the privilege of attending a lecture given by Tadashi Tokieda, a renowned mathematician and science mediator. The lecture offered a fascinating perspective on mathematics, broadening the horizons of young mathematicians and inspiring them in their future academic and professional careers.

The Young Mathematicians Tournament is much more than just a competition. It'san event that encourages young people to immerse themselves in the world of mathematics, develop their problem-solving skills and nurture their passion for the discipline. By offering them a platform to present their work and putting them in touch with eminent researchers, the tournament helps shape the next generation of mathematicians."
